Haze is an important indicator for the quality inspection of matte film products, which determines the optical performance of matte film materials. However, different industries have different requirements for the haze of matte films, so it is necessary to test the haze of matte films. This article introduces the requirements and test methods for the haze of matte films.

Matte Film Haze Requirements:

Matte film usually has a higher haze requirement to achieve its specific visual effects and performance. Haze refers to the ratio of the scattered light flux that deviates from the original direction when light passes through the material to the total light flux that passes through the material. It determines the blurriness or opacity of the material surface.

In different application scenarios, the haze requirements of matte film may be different, but generally speaking, in order to achieve a soft, matte, and highly diffuse reflection effect, the haze of matte film products should generally be medium to high, for example:

For some high-end applications such as mobile phone films, the haze may be required to be above 70% to obtain good visual comfort and prevent glare.

In the field of film packaging, the haze of PE matte film may need to be between 98% and 106%, which means that it has extremely high diffuse reflection performance and excellent shielding effect.

Of course, the specific product specifications will vary depending on the needs of manufacturers and customers. In the actual production process, manufacturers will customize the haze and other physical performance parameters of the matte film according to the final use to ensure that the user's needs for visual effects, feel, printing suitability and other aspects are met.

Testing method for haze of matte film:

To accurately measure the haze value of matte film, you can use a professional haze measuring instrument, the haze meter. Here we recommend the Sanens YH1200 haze meter. The haze meter YH1200 is a detection instrument based on the principle of light scattering. It calculates the haze of glass products by measuring the intensity of scattered light. Its core components include light sources, light scattering chambers, and photoelectric sensors. When light passes through glass products, scattering occurs, and part of the light will scatter in all directions. The haze meter YH1200 measures the intensity of this scattered light and combines it with the ratio of the intensity of the incident light to calculate the haze of the glass product. The steps to use the YH1200 haze meter to test the haze of matte film are as follows:

1. Instrument Preparation

Before starting the test, you need to check whether the power supply of the haze meter YH1200 is connected and make sure the instrument is in normal working condition. At the same time, prepare the matte film sample to be tested and wipe its surface clean to ensure there are no impurities or contaminants.

2. Calibrate the instrument

In order to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results, the haze meter YH1200 needs to be calibrated before use. According to the calibration method in the instrument manual, place the standard haze sheet in the light scattering chamber and adjust the instrument parameters so that the measurement results are consistent with the standard values.

3. Sample testing

Place the matte film sample to be tested in the light scattering chamber of the haze meter YH1200, adjust the position and angle of the sample to ensure that the light can evenly illuminate the entire sample. Then, press the measurement button, and the instrument will automatically measure and record the data. Each sample needs to be measured at least three times to reduce errors and improve accuracy.

4. Data Processing

After the measurement is completed, the haze meter YH1200 will automatically transfer the data to the computer. If needed, the data can be processed and analyzed using relevant software. For example, the average haze, maximum haze value, and standard deviation of the haze of the sample can be calculated.

As an advanced testing instrument, the haze meter YH1200 plays an important role in the haze testing of matte film. By understanding and mastering the operating steps and data processing methods of the instrument, we can more accurately evaluate the quality and performance of matte film products. This has important practical significance for both manufacturers and users.
