For facing stones, glossiness is an important physical property, which reflects the glossiness of facing stones and affects their decorative effects. Therefore, measuring the glossiness of facing stones is an important means to control product appearance quality and enhance product competitiveness. So, how to measure the glossiness of facing stones? How to use a 45° angle gloss meter?
Facing Stone
The gloss of facing stone refers to the ability of the mineral surface to reflect vertically incident light, which can be expressed by the reflectivity R, which is the percentage of the regular reflection intensity (Ir) of the mineral surface to the vertical incident intensity (Ii), that is, R=Ir/Iix100%. It can be seen from the formula that when the incident light intensity is constant, the greater the intensity of the reflected light, the higher the reflectivity of the mineral and the stronger the gloss.
The main minerals that make up marble and granite are non-metallic transparent minerals with low reflectivity. Under natural light, the reflectivity of quartz is 4.5%, calcite is 4-6%, dolomite is 4-6%, etc. Their luster is glassy in appearance, and it is difficult to distinguish their luster with the naked eye. Marble and granite composed of these minerals are used as decorative materials, and the brilliant colors presented by their polished mirror reflection are utilized. Therefore, in order to better reflect the gloss performance of facing stones, it is generally not directly expressed by reflectivity, but by glossiness.
The so-called glossiness is the relative size of the mirror reflection ability of the polished surface of the facing stone to the oblique light. In actual measurement, a photoelectric gloss meter is used, i.e. a gloss meter. Generally, the incident angle of the incident light is 45°, and the standard plate used for measurement is black glass with a refractive index of 1.567. Its mirror reflectivity at 45° oblique light is R=5.97. Taking the black glass with R=5.97 as the standard, its glossiness is set to 100. The relative glossiness of other transparent minerals is expressed by the size of the mirror reflection ability relative to the black glass, i.e. the relative glossiness of the mineral (abbreviated as glossiness).
45° Angle Gloss Meter
From the above definition, we can know that the glossiness of facing stone is generally measured with a gloss meter at a 45-degree angle. At present, there are few brands and models of 45-degree angle gloss meters on the market. Here we recommend the Triumph 45-degree angle gloss meter YG45. YG45 is a professional instrument for measuring the glossiness of the surface of objects. It uses a 45-degree angle measurement method and can accurately measure the glossiness of the product surface. It is widely used in gloss measurement and quality inspection in stone, ceramics, film, paper, plastic and other industries. The instrument has the following advantages:
1. Good operating experience: The streamlined curved surface design is more ergonomic, and it can maintain a comfortable grip even in daily or continuous work, effectively avoiding fatigue and bringing users a good operating experience.
2. Multi-mode measurement: supports basic mode, statistical mode, continuous mode, and quality control mode switching to adapt to different application scenarios. The normal mode is for immediate measurement and fast reading; the quality control mode can customize the upper and lower limits to achieve rapid inspection of incoming materials.
3. Low power consumption: One fully charged No. 5 battery (AA alkaline battery or NiMH rechargeable battery) can measure more than 10,000 times.
4. Calibration function: supports calibration, with the function of automatically checking the calibration standard plate to ensure the accuracy and reliability of long-term measurement.
5. Lightweight and portable: Lightweight design, easy to carry, not only suitable for precision measurement in the laboratory, but also convenient for flexible application in the production site.
6. Excellent inter-instrument difference and repeatability: The repeatability is very good. In the measurement range of 0-100GU, the repeatability can reach ±0.5GU, and in the measurement range of 100-800GU, the repeatability can reach ±0.5%GU.
7. High-precision measurement: Carefully adjusted measurement system and optical path layout ensure stable and accurate gloss measurement.
8. PC-side quality management software: The instrument is equipped with powerful PC-side data management software, which supports online measurement, prints test reports, transfers data, and realizes more functional expansion.
YG45 gloss meter is a high-precision gloss measuring instrument designed for marble, ceramics and other industries. When users use this instrument to measure the gloss of samples, they only need to follow the instrument's operating instructions to make a digital representation of the gloss of the sample. It has the advantages of high precision and accurate measurement.
